Year after year, we prove that a biro is more than just a writing instrument. The increased use of recycled and recyclable materials in particular has made us stand out. "In our search for a sustainable approach, we came across recycled PET material in 2016," explains Alexander Ullmann, Managing Director of uma Schreibgeräte Ullmann GmbH. We are still the only manufacturer in Europe to produce ballpoint pens made from 100% rPET. But that's not all: further modifications mean that, in addition to the classic biros, there is now also a rollerball, fineliner and a liquid highlighter, which not only writes sustainably thanks to the rPET, but also particularly smoothly. The particularly sustainable corporate philosophy is also reflected in the RECYCLED PET PEN PRO ocean model. With this writing instrument, we combine not only ecological but also social sustainability with our innovative strength. By winning the TOP 100 Award once again, uma Schreibgeräte Ullmann GmbH has emphasised its position as one of the most innovative manufacturers of promotional writing instruments.
Petra Lassahn, Director PSI and Stephanie Gerresheim, Key Account Management PSI surprised us with an anniversary drink at the end of the second day of the PSI trade fair. uma was celebrating the 60th anniversary of PSI and of course we had to raise a glass to this.
A few anecdotes were shared and we came to the conclusion that even if a lot has changed over the years, the personal network around PSI is an absolute added value for the industry, which is not only lived and impressively characterised by uma during the PSI trade fair.
We impressed in the category - Excellent Product Design - Eco Design with the uma RECYCLED PET PEN PRO ocean and won the German Design Award 2024. This makes the OCEAN writing instrument series, which is manufactured entirely in Europe and is 100% climate-neutral, one of the top designs worldwide.
In cooperation with Plastic Bank, plastic waste is collected in coastal areas and at river mouths, either washed up by the sea or left behind on the beaches. The special thing about this is that it not only reduces plastic pollution, but also gives the members of the collection community a chance of a better life. The writing instrument therefore emphasises not only climate protection but also the idea of social sustainability. This is impressive proof that investing in innovation for an everyday accessory such as the writing instrument is not only sustainable, but can also be implemented successfully.
